The best rank tracking tools in 2026, compared by price and limits
The best rank tracking tools do the same basic job: they check where your pages rank on Google and keep the history. They differ in what they bundle, how many keywords they allow and what they charge. This page compares six rank trackers by price and limits, checked on 4 November 2026 on the companies' own pages, and says who each one fits.
The best rank tracking tools compared
Here are the best rank tracking tools we compared. Every price below is the cheapest plan with rank tracking that the company's own pricing page showed on 4 November 2026, without tax. Dollars and euros are as listed, not converted. "Billed yearly" means the monthly share of a yearly payment.
| Tool | Best for | Cheapest plan with rank tracking | Tracked keywords | Websites or projects |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SerpBeats | Small sites, local businesses, a few clients | Beginner, $10 (Growth $30, Scale $60) | 50 (200, 500) | 5 (15, 40) |
| SE Ranking | Lists of 1,000 to 5,000 keywords | Core, $129 ($103.20 billed yearly) | 2,000 | 10 |
| Semrush | Teams already on the Semrush suite | SEO, $139 ($117.33 billed yearly) | 500 | 5 |
| Ahrefs | Teams that use Ahrefs for research | Lite, $129 | 750 | 5 not verified, unlimited verified |
| AccuRanker | Very large keyword lists | Professional, €224 | From 2,000 | Not stated |
| Nightwatch | AI answer tracking in every plan | Starter, €79 billed yearly (€948 a year) | 500 | 5 |
Sources: SerpBeats, SE Ranking, Semrush, Ahrefs, AccuRanker and Nightwatch. AccuRanker's page gives 10% off for a yearly payment but does not say which option its €224 shows. Nightwatch's page shows €79 for a yearly payment and a saving of €240 a year against paying monthly. Prices change, so check the page before you decide. If you see a different number, tell us and we will fix it.
These are not ranked from first to last. The best rank tracking tool for a ten-page shop is not the best one for an agency with 5,000 keywords, and the table says who each fits.
How we chose the best rank tracking tools
We kept trackers that check Google rankings for keywords you choose, show their prices on a page we could read, and let you start without a sales call. We are SerpBeats, so we are on the list, and we say where we fit and where we do not. We compare what the companies publish. We did not test how accurate each tracker is.
The best rank tracking tools, one by one
SerpBeats: the best rank tracking tool for small sites and a few clients
SerpBeats costs $10 a month for 50 keywords, $30 for 200 and $60 for 500. Keywords inside the top 40 are checked every day for the country, city and device you choose, and keywords outside it every second day. It shows competitors, the Google AI Overview, Google Maps tracking from 13 points around a business, and scheduled PDF reports. Tracking your brand in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity is a separate add-on. It has no backlink index and no large keyword database, and its biggest self-service plan has 500 keywords. The trial is 7 days, with no card. More on the rank tracker page.
SE Ranking: the best rank tracking tool for a 2,000-keyword list
The Core plan costs $129 a month ($103.20 billed yearly) for 2,000 keywords and 10 projects. Growth costs $279 ($223.20 billed yearly) for 5,000 keywords and 30 projects. The page offers a 14-day free trial with no card. Below 500 keywords you pay for room you may not use.
Semrush: best if you already use the suite
The SEO plan costs $139 a month ($117.33 billed yearly) for 500 keywords and 5 projects. Pro+ costs $299 for 1,500 keywords and 15 projects. Semrush's home page lists keyword research, backlink analysis and site audits next to rank tracking, so it makes sense when you use those. We compare the two in the Semrush alternative page.
Ahrefs: best if research is the main job
Lite costs $129 a month for 750 keywords, Standard $249 for 2,000 and Advanced $449 for 5,000. Rank Tracker is one tool among Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Content Explorer and others on its home page. See the Ahrefs alternative page for the comparison.
AccuRanker: the best rank tracking tool for very large lists
Its pricing page describes daily updates. Professional costs €224 a month and starts at 2,000 keywords (the page also lists 3,000 and 5,000). Expert costs €764 from 10,000 keywords and includes an unlimited read API. Enterprise is for more than 25,000 keywords, on request. If you track fewer than 500, you pay for room you do not use.
Nightwatch: the best rank tracking tool if you want AI answers in every plan
Starter costs €79 a month billed yearly (€948 a year) for 500 keywords and 5 websites. Professional costs €159 for 2,500 keywords and 25 websites, and Agency €399 for 7,500 keywords and 100 websites. Every plan tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode and AI Overview, according to its page, and the trial is 14 days with no card.
Free and other options
- Google Search Console costs nothing. Its average position is the topmost position your site had for a query, averaged across queries, and it is counted only when the result was shown to someone. It is not a daily check of the keywords you pick, so it does not replace a rank tracker.
- A free rank checker answers one keyword at a time. Ours is the free rank checker, with country, city and device and no account.
- Mangools SERPWatcher. Its page says rankings update weekly, and daily on the Agency plan. We could not read its prices, so check mangools.com.
- Wincher. Its pricing page lists three plans from 500, 1,000 and 5,000 keywords, with daily updates. We could not read the prices there, so check wincher.com.
How to pick among the best rank tracking tools
Start with how many keywords you really track, then narrow the best rank tracking tools by what else you need. There is no single best rank tracker: the best SEO rank tracker for you is the one sized for your list.
- Up to 200 keywords. SerpBeats Beginner or Growth ($10 or $30) costs less than any other plan in the table.
- About 500 keywords. SerpBeats Scale ($60), Nightwatch Starter (€79 billed yearly) and Semrush SEO ($139) are sized for it. Ahrefs Lite ($129) and SE Ranking Core ($129) cover it with room to spare.
- 1,000 to 5,000 keywords. Look at SE Ranking, AccuRanker, Ahrefs Standard and Advanced, and Nightwatch Professional. SerpBeats self-service plans stop at 500.
- Research or backlinks too. Choose a suite, Semrush or Ahrefs, and do not pay twice for the same rankings.
- AI answers in the same tool. Nightwatch includes them in every plan. SerpBeats includes the Google AI Overview and offers ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity as an add-on.
What to check in any rank tracker
Whichever of the best rank tracking tools you choose, check these five things.
- How often it checks. Daily history shows a trend you can act on. Weekly checks hide short drops.
- Country, city and device. The same search ranks differently on a phone and in another city.
- History. Judge a keyword by weeks of positions, not by one day. One missing day is noise, not a drop.
- Competitors. Seeing who is ahead on which keyword tells you where to work.
- Reports. If you have clients, a scheduled PDF saves an hour a month.

What is the best rank tracking tool for a small business?
For 50 to 500 keywords, a focused tracker costs the least among the best rank tracking tools: SerpBeats starts at $10 a month for 50 keywords and costs $60 for 500, against $139 for the cheapest Semrush plan and $129 for Ahrefs Lite. If you also need research and backlinks, a suite fits better.
How many keywords should I track?
Start with the keywords tied to pages that bring, or should bring, customers. Add more after you have acted on those. A plan with some room costs less than a bigger plan you do not use.
Is there a free rank tracker?
Google Search Console is free and shows average positions from Google's data. A free rank checker, like ours, answers one keyword at a time. For daily tracking of many keywords most tools charge. SerpBeats has a 7-day free trial with no card, and Nightwatch and SE Ranking list 14-day trials.
How often should a rank tracker check?
Daily gives a trend you can act on, and weekly checks hide short drops. Check the plan you want: Mangools says SERPWatcher updates weekly, and daily on its Agency plan. SerpBeats checks keywords inside the top 40 every day.
